Readjustment counseling services
are free of charge.
Vet centers are traditionally
located in their local communities; residential locales
or storefront sites, attempting to access the veteran population
in a setting, which is as stress free as possible.
The following is a brief description of what Vet Centers
typically provide for eligible veterans:
• READJUSTMENT COUNSELING: Aims
at assisting veterans to cope with adaptation into a civilian
environment from what may have been problematic military
experiences with emphasis on treating the symptoms of
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
• SEXUAL TRAUMA COUNSELING: Is
offered to any veteran who experienced sexual harassment/trauma
while on active duty.
• SPOUSE/SIGNIFICANT OTHER COUNSELING: Primarily concerns itself with assisting the veterans’
readjustment issues.
• EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE: Directs
efforts for veteran’s employment utilizing Washington
State job placement, networking, and job advocacy.
• PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES: Includes
assessment, individual counseling,
group counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals.
• ADVOCATING VETERANS ISSUES: Consists
of intensive community involvement for information dissemination.
• BENEFITS COUNSELING: Determines
eligibility for veterans’ benefits and conducts
appropriate referral to local veteran service organizations
for claims implementation.
• REFERRAL: Links veterans with
services in the community and the VA medical system emphasizing
continuity and quality of care.
Links families of veterans with appropriate agencies for federal benefits
for families such as burial benefits, death pensions veterans
assistance fund and other benefits provided by the federal
and/or state government.
